Becky and Jono’s wedding day was so beautiful from start to finish. The day – spent at the stunning Nottinghamshire wedding venue Hodsock Priory – was full of conker battles, surprise singing waiters, espresso martinis and more classic cars than you could shake several sticks at! We loved photographing this wedding and Becky and Jono loved all their photos and videos – they were kind enough to leave us a fantastic review below (thank you so much both of you!) We were also delighted to recently win a prestigious This Is Reportage Award for one of our images from this stunning Hodsock Priory wedding. Below you will find our favourite photographs that really tell the story of the day, then Becky and Jono talk about their own highlights.

Thanks so much to Becky and Jono for taking the time to answer our questions below. We like to make our blogs as personal to our couples as possible and it’s been lovely reading Becky and Jono’s thoughts on planning their wedding, their favourite moments and also a tip for all couples planning their wedding day!

The venue. As we are both from the Doncaster / Nottinghamshire area, we knew we wanted to get married close to where we grew up. Blyth church is part of the parish where Jono grew up in and is an incredibly beautiful and historic church. The historical significance of the Church and area is something we both appreciate. As to the reception venue, we loved the history and stunning setting of Hodsock. We wanted a venue that was traditional and elegant but that allowed us to put our own personal touches in it. We had also been to Hodsock a couple of times before during snowdrop season and we have happy memories there. We chose to get married in October as this is our favourite time of year with the autumn colours and so we were keen to find somewhere that was beautiful both inside and outside in case the weather wasn’t great but as luck would have it the sun shone all day despite being the wettest October on record for the area!

The wedding dress. I think my bridesmaids were fed up with the number of dresses I tried on! I was looking for something fairly simple with some lace and sleeves but didn’t find many dresses that ticked all the boxes. However, my sister-in-law recommended Boa Boutique in Richmond, London. There, a beautiful french lace bolero caught my eye as the pattern was like autumn leaves and Jono and I are both Francofiles! Their in-house designer Sheila Harding understood exactly what I was looking for and designed a couture dress for me which was a simple crepe dress with a french lace bolero. They also made a couture veil for me with the same french lace embroidered in it. I was quite nervous about buying a dress without seeing the finished article but I was over the moon with the end result – I had the biggest smile when I put it on and didn’t want to take it off!

How Becky and Jono met. We met at school – we’ve been together for 13 years! We were very different people at school and didn’t expect to stay together! However, we have grown even closer over the years and are happier than ever.

Planning the big day. Whilst live in London and have busy lives, we were to keen to plan the wedding ourselves and make it personal by incorporating all of the things we love – cars, animals, wine and Sheffield Wednesday. As we have been together for a long time, we really just wanted our wedding to be a good party with all of our closest friends and family.

Favourite moments on the day – these can be separate or a moment together. There were three stand out moments for us:

(i) Having a moment to ourselves immediately after the church. We drove off into the woods at Hodsock in our Frazer Nash and celebrated with our first glass of champagne as a married couple. It was nice to digest the ceremony and have some time just the two of us before celebrating with friends and family.

(ii) When we found out that the waiters were actually incredible operatic signers that had been organised by my brother and sister-in-law as a complete surprise. Nick and James from The Singing Staff were phenomenal. I can’t put into words how I felt when they first started sining but my tears said it all! They were not only exceptional singers but also fantastic entertainers – they got the whole room, young and old, dancing on chairs and swinging napkins in the air!

(iii) One of our very close friends and bridesmaids Hannah sang during the ceremony whilst we signed the register. It meant so much to us to have such a close friend signing during this special moment and her voice is out of this world – we (and all the guests) were blown away.

The photography. Our main priority when picking a photographer was to find someone who captured the day by taking natural photos without being intrusive. We also wanted to capture the moments and not force a pose. M&G’s style is exactly this and all of our guests commented on M&G’s style and how they blended into the background.

Before the day, we felt nervous and awkward about posing for photographs. However, at the pre wedding shoot Patrick really put us at ease with his natural and relaxed style. On the day, there were a couple of moments that were particularly special to us which we wanted to make sure were captured on camera – my Dad seeing me in my dress and walking down the aisle to Jono. M and G Photographic captured these moments perfectly.

After the Ceremony, we wanted to enjoy the drinks reception and mingle with guests, rather than spend ages having formal photos. This fitted with M and G’s mantra and Patrick worked with our brothers to ensure the formal photos were done efficiently which meant more time for fizz and canapés! When it came to our couple photos, M and G Photographic just let us go for a walk around the beautiful grounds at Hodsock whilst they took photos in the background. This was one of our favourite moments of the day as it gave us an opportunity to discuss and digest the day so far and we actually forgot the cameras were there. As a result, we got beautiful natural photos that just captured how happy we were.

The Highlights Video. Jono was reluctant to get a video as he wasn’t sure when we would watch it and thought it wouldn’t add much beyond the photographs. However, a few close friends and family really recommended that we get one and it was the best decision we made (and Jono will be the first to admit he was wrong)! The video captured the key moments of the day and we have loved reliving those moments and sharing with friends and family.

Wedding suppliers. As we wanted to make the wedding personal, our friends and family helped with many aspects of the day: my mum arranged the pick n mix stand, my step mum made the cake; my aunt did the table plan, name places and menus; my maid of honour drew our welcome sign; Jono’s Mum made the sloe gin wedding favours. However, the suppliers we did use were all excellent, in particular we would like to mention the following.

Courtney and Vicki at Hodsock were excellent – they were friendly, accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. They also ensured the day ran smoothly on the day We ordered our wine from Berry Brothers, our favourite wine merchants in London. The service was excellent. We ended up changing our wine order a week before the wedding and they delivered in 48 hours. Bridget at Lockwoods florists in Tickhill put together beautiful autumnal flower arrangements.

One recommendation to couples who are planning their own wedding. Everyone told us to take a step back at some point and just take in the day. Whilst we agree it is important to take some time to digest the day, we wanted to be in the midst of the party! We found the perfect time for us to take some time to ourselves was during our couple photos as M and G’s natural and laid back style meant we were able to use this time to go for a walk and chat about the day without a camera in our face whilst not having to miss out too much on the party getting awesome photos as a result!

Thanks again to Becky and Jono, not just for taking the time to write the above, but also just for being such a lovely couple to get to know throughout the planning stage. The wedding itself – as the photographs show! – was such an amazing day to photograph.

We loved Becky and Jono’s stunning autumn wedding at Hodsock Priory. The colours and golden light were beautiful as was Becky’s stunning couture wedding dress. The whole day was made even more photogenic by the amazing array of classic cars that were present, all driven by Becky and Jono’s many guests (Hodsock Priory told us that it was the biggest wedding they had ever hosted – 150 happy guests packed into the great hall made quite a spectacle!)

From the emotion of the first look between Becky and her dad as he saw her in her quite beautiful wedding dress for the first time to the fun surprise of the singing waiters, this whole day was perfect. Becky and Jono if you wanted to do it all again we would happily photograph it for you!
